Israel Bound (March 2017, Israel)

In less than 24 hours, I’ll be boarding a plane to Israel. Here are some FAQs about my upcoming trip.
Q. Is this a peacekeeping trip?
A. No man. I like to label it as a spiritual pilgrimage of sorts. It’ll be peacekeeping in as much as the act of learning about another culture breeds tolerance.
Q. Are you Jewish?
A. Not technically, but sometimes I think I am. Can I say that and still be a Christian? I hope so, because I did and I am. The more I learn about Jewish traditions and theology, the more questions I have about my Christian beliefs. Once I finish Comparative Religion for Dummies on the plane, I am sure I will have more things to say about this. I’ll keep you posted.
Q. Who are you going with?
A. My mom, my brother, and a gaggle of Lutherans from the suburbs of Milwaukee, WI. The average age will be, like, 55? Brother and I bring that average down.
Q. Will you bring me a souvenir?
A. I packed all in a carry on for this 11 day adventure, so sorry. Not sorry.
Q. Are you prepared for this trip?
A. Not at all. I have yet to read the planning emails our guide sent over the last year. About two hours ago, I frantically texted my half-Israeli friend regarding whether my magenta puffer coat was culturally appropriate. Wish me luck.
